Illusion Vase 2018

Commissioned by Created out of mind at the Wellcome Collections Hub, this piece aimed to illuminate some of the lesser known symptoms of dementia, such as disorientation, through its illusionary form. Viewed from one angle, the vases take the form of a traditional vase (narrow at the bottom and opening up towards the top), but when viewed from a different angle this form is reversed.

The Illusion Vase was produced in collaboration with Middlesex University using a Potterbot 3D Clay Printer. It was this technique that gave the Vase such a characteristic texture.

The Illusion Vase was exhibited at Life Space Gallery as part of Trajectories Exhibition, Dundee from 2nd February to the 2nd June 2018 and is now on permenant exhibition at the Wellcome Hub.
